Some Cricket and Some Sunshine (at last)

Although the ground was dampish at Hazel Grove we were just glad to get the game on, and with a few last minute phone calls and a parental consent form we managed to get a full team. We weren't very happy with our total of 69 all out, but when we heard that the firsts had bowled High Lane out for 34 we felt a bit better. News also came that Compstall seconds (yes - the same Compstall that were desperate to play at Whaley last week as they hunt down promotion) were all out for 12 (twelve). The firsts victory puts them in with a real chance of promotion. Mottram are clear on 265 points, followed by Compstall on 240. Whaley are third, just 2 points behind them, with Hadfield a further 3 points back in fourth. As Hadfield and Compstall play each other twice at the end of the season, there is a very good chance that Whaley could come up on the rails and beat them both to that second spot. What the firsts really need is everyone to be available, and a good scorer, unlike yesterday when Dec Ryan couldn't play, then turned up to score for the entire game after missing just a couple of overs. A bit of commitment required Dec, but remember its a 12.30 start next week!

There was a proud moment for myself yesterday as Ole made his second team debut, but overshadowing everyone was Zac who also made his full debut in the scorebox. See if you can spot the shy and retiring scorer on the team photo.
Back: P. Crowley, B. Bettney, M. Madden, N. Latham, J. Fidler, C. Wild
Middle: G. Preece, O. Madden, H. Bold, B. Stones, A. Gibson
Front: Z. Madden

Incidentally, how difficult is it to take a team photo? Very if you have to get Peter out of the changing room. We eventually got something like the above pose in order, having extracted Peter from the dressing room, but the first couple of attempts to capture the image failed miserably. We reconvened, only to find that Peter had once again hidden himself away. Eventually, as you can see, we did manage to get the camera shy all rounder onto the back row.

Four Weddings And A Funeral
Back to the matter of selection, and we managed to pick two teams on Monday night. Unfortunately the first team only had ten men available, and the seconds had 3 AN Others. Obviously we managed to field 22 players, but not without a lot of skulduggery. Eddie was at a wedding, and there are two Eddie Fords, and he went with his mrs so that makes four, whilst Dale's cunning plan involved seeing who turned up at Derek Abbott's funeral and choosing from there! I am sure Ian would have gladly donned his whites if they weren't in New Zealand, but its hardly the platform for an end of season promotion chase!
