2nd XI v Buxworth (away) Saturday 12th May

It is probably not unfair to call it a scratch side as Whaley took the short trip to Buxworth, with TR Wild as captain, several people not really knowing each other, and N.E. Morten due to turn up an hour after the start. You can read the Captain's Blog for TRs version of events, this is merely a statistical representation of what occurred. Buggy batted first and reached 100 without loss with 20 overs still remaining, not quite in the 400+ territory of a couple of seasons ago, but it still looked ominous. Scholesy, in his last appearance for some time, gave away 34 runs in 8 overs, whilst newcomer Ben Williams bowled better than his figures of 0 for 31 off 4 suggest. Ben Bettney was not done a disservice by his figures of 0 for 20 off 2, and it was left to young Ben Stones to exert some control, floating down 6 overs for 18, though 11 of these came off his final over. Col returned and took 2 wickets after catches by N.E. Morten and Ben Bettney, finishing with 2 for 34 off 19, whilst Harry Bold was the only other wicket taker, ending with 4 for 26 off 6 with 2 clean bowled and catches by Rob Hill and N.E. Morten. The Buggy scoring rate had slowed dramatically, and their final total of 169 for 6 was definitely within reach. Elliott and Harry opened, with Harry the first to go, caught for 7. Elliott soon followed, bowled for 8, Then Rob Hill started with a flourish but was bowled for 9. Scholesy was bowled for 15, and at 62 for 4 we were in trouble. N.E. Morten and Ben Williams then crafted a tremendous partnership, before Ben was caught for 69. N.E. continued on his merry way, falling with just 13 required for a magnificent 68. Ben Stones went for 3, whilst Ben Bettney was dismissed for a golden duck, to leave 12 required with TR Wild joined by Clayton at the crease. The rest was inevitable, with TR not out 7 and Roy not out 5, including a lofted drive for 4. Whaley were home with 5 balls to spare, exactly the same as the previous week, though with 2 slightly less predictable heroes.
