Whaley Bridge 2nd XI v Tintwistle Saturday 2nd May 2015

Not much to say about this game! It was bloody cold and very wet. Should we have started? Yes. Should we have batted first? Possibly, but as I lost the toss that was taken out of my hands. The much vaunted youth policy failed miserably as Ben Stones, Reuben Cutts and Harry Bold were caught for 0, 3 and 2 respectively. Peter Crowley and Ivan Heathcote slowly built a partnership, but Ivan was bowled for 26 and we were 41 for 4. Will McIlveen has shown new maturity this season, and he and Peter took the score to 77 before Peter was bowled for 20. Next in was Charlie Kitchen, and they took the score past 100 when the rain brought about an early tea. This enabled Tintwistle to get caught up with the football scores, and we thought that was that. However, gradually the rain stopped and we went back out. 102 for 5 quickly progressed, and when Charlie was run out for 16 we were 128 for 6. Will McIlveen passed 50, finishing on 60 not out, whilst Oli at the other end nudged his way to a very good unbeaten 16. We closed the innings on 158 for 6, and with the weather closing in we were happy with 3 bonus points.

Sadly, the weather never quite closed in enough, and Tintwistle set about reaching their target with some urgency. Colin Wild dropped a catch, Ivan failed to get anywhere near a catch, and the sight of hands being pulled away from balls that were speeding towards the boundary was disappointing. The one bright spot was when Colin took a catch off Charlie, it was a comprehensive 9 wicket defeat, with 15 overs to spare.
