Under 13s v Hazel Grove (away) 18th May 2011

posted 19 May 2011, 13:54 by Mike Madden
The rain at last relented as Whaley Bridge took to the field in sunny Hazel Grove. Charlie Kitchen and Ben Stones started confidently, but both suffered one dismissal to reduce the score to 216. Ole Madden smashed his way to 20 though he was also run out, but he and Ethan Williams took the total to 237. Daniel Burt recorded his first ever positive score despite being dismissed once, and he and Will McIlveen moved the score on to 249. Bruce Glover and Alfie Hodges were also out once each as Whaley reached 260, then Jacob Holland guided debutant Kieran Connell through 4 overs, adding 15 runs in the process despite Kieran being run out. 265 was not a huge total, but our boys were confident. Bruce Glover (0-9) and Danny Burt (0-5) opened and were fairly tight, but Hazel Grove were on course with the score on 216. Ole Madden (1-6)then took a superb return catch to halt the innings, whilst Alfie Hodges (0-8) struggled on his first bowl of the year. Grove had moved on to 225, but there were signs that they had run out of batsmen. Charlie Kitchen gave away just 4 runs, whilst Jacob Holland gave away 10, but Jacob took a wicket after a catch by Will McIlveen and with a couple of run outs, including a direct hit by Ole Madden, the score was reduced to 224. Ben Stones took a wicket and conceded just 5 runs, whilst he also took a catch off Ethan Williams who gave away just 6. With one pair remaining the score was on 226, then Danny Burt gave away just 3 runs followed by a maiden from Jacob Holland. At the other end Kieran Connell (0-9) had trouble with his line, but with the finishing total of just 238, Whaley completed a well deserved 27 run victory. Man of the Match Ole Madden.
