Defeat At Dove

posted 16 May 2011, 14:36 by Mike Madden
On a cold night in Dove (are there any other kinds?), Whaley batted first and got off to a sticky start. The muddy wicket made it difficult to judge attacking shots, and Dan Mulholland and Callum McIlveen both perished to balls that stopped. Alex Cripps took control, ably supported by JJ Goldfinch,  and we passed 50. With overs running out Alex played ever more imaginative shots, and he was eventually dismissed for 35. JJ scored a gallant 19 as the innings ended on 86 for 5, a below par score, but not without a chance on a wet wicket. JJ struck early, then Henry Holden took the second wicket of the innings with a good catch by Steven Weston. Although the fielding was tight, with Harry Bold doing a splendid job behind the stumps, it took a while for the 3rd wicket to arrive, and this time the bowler was Alex Cripps. Unfortunately the Dove batsmen took control, and it came as some relief from the darkening skies when they reached their target to record a 7 wicket victory, but our boys can take heart from another useful performance.
